A Clearer World For Anushka

From sitting on the sidelines to dreaming of becoming a teacher, Anushka’s journey shows how restored sight can transform not just vision, but an entire life.

At just 11, Anushka Kumari from Arana village, Bihar, knows the joy of walking confidently to school, laughing with friends, and dreaming of becoming a teacher.

But a year ago, this simple childhood felt impossible.

Anushka was born with congenital cataracts and squint eyes. Her vision was a blur of light and shadow. Books looked like colour blobs, balls in games were invisible, and the faces of her loved ones were only hazy outlines.

I used to hear my friends laughing and running, but I couldn’t join them. I stayed back and watched.

says Anushka

Her parents, Prem Kumar Singh and Babita Devi, small-scale farmers, watched in despair as their daughter missed out on the joys of childhood.

We thought it was God’s wish. We didn’t know anything could be done,

 her father admits.

A Ray of Hope

Everything changed when the family learned about Akhand Jyoti’s Bal Drishti programme, supported by Bajaj Finserv.

At a free eye screening camp in her village, Anushka was diagnosed, and doctors assured her parents that surgery was possible — and completely free. For the first time, there was hope.

The day after her surgery, Anushka’s world opened.

I could see my mother’s smile. I could see the colours of my dress. Everything was new and beautiful,

says Anushka

A New Life Begins

With her sight restored, Anushka now goes to school daily, reads books, runs in the fields, and plays with friends. Her confidence has bloomed along with her laughter.

Her father beams,

When I see her studying or playing, I feel like she’s been given a second life. A future.

For a girl once confined to blurred shadows, the world is now bright, full of colour and opportunity.

Dreaming Ahead

Today, Anushka dares to dream of becoming a teacher. Her story is a living proof that a small act of support can bring a lifetime of change.

Anushka’s world has changed forever — from blurred dreams to a clear future.
