Living In A World Out Of Focus: Taukir's Journey To Sight
Every morning now, 5-year-old Taukir Ansari walks hand-in-hand with his friends to the local Anganwadi. He joins the morning prayers, copies words from the blackboard, and plays games in the courtyard. His laughter is louder, his steps more confident. Just months ago, this was unimaginable. Taukir had never seen the world clearly — until Akhand Jyoti stepped into his life.
Living in a World Out of Focus
Born with cataracts in both eyes, Taukir’s early world was nothing but a haze. His father, Kayum Ansari, is the sole earning member of the family, and his mother, Rehana Khatoon, manages the household. Their modest income barely met daily needs, leaving no possibility for expensive medical treatment.
We noticed the white spots in his eyes since birth. But we didn’t know how serious it was or how to help him. We just prayed things would get better,
recalls Rehana
A Mother's Effort Changes Everything
It was Taukir’s mother who became the turning point in his story. She refused to let his future fade into darkness after hearing about a free eye screening camp organised by Akhand Jyoti. Convincing the family to take him for a check-up, she accompanied them to the camp.
There, doctors confirmed congenital cataract in both eyes. The good news was that with timely surgery, his vision could be restored.
The Day Light Came In
Under Akhand Jyoti’s Bal Drishti Initiative, Taukir was taken to the Mastichak Surgical Hospital for free surgery. The procedure was successful. For the first time in his life, Taukir opened his eyes to a world in focus.
The moment he looked at me without stressing, I felt like the happiest father alive,
says Kayum with a smile.
Life After Surgery
The transformation was immediate and profound. Taukir now reads, writes, and plays with ease. His teachers say he is more attentive, participates actively in class, and shows great enthusiasm for learning.
Earlier, I could not see the blackboard. Now I can read and write like others. I want to become a teacher when I grow up so I can help children learn,
says Kayum with a smile.
A Future Full of Possibilities
For the Ansari family, the surgery was not just about restoring vision — it was about giving a child the chance to learn, grow, and dream.
Akhand Jyoti gave my son his sight and his future. We will never forget what they have done for us,
Rehana says.
