Some worries arrive without warning. They begin with something so ordinary that it is easy to overlook at first. A child hesitates while learning to walk. A parent notices. A family begins searching for answers.

That was how Hariom's story began.

When His Parents Started to Notice

Hariom is eight years old and lives in Dada Ka Chapra in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh. His father, Hareram, works as a labourer, while his mother, Pratibha Devi, looks after the family.

When Hariom was learning to walk, his parents realised something was not right. As they looked for the reason, they learned that he had congenital cataracts.

The diagnosis brought clarity, but treatment was not easy to arrange for a family already balancing the demands of everyday life.

The Little Moments His Mother Missed

As Hariom grew older, the changes became more noticeable. Reading became difficult. Playing with other children was no longer as easy as before. He needed help with things he wanted to do on his own.

His mother noticed these changes most during the hours they spent together at home. Storybooks that once filled their afternoons were no longer as enjoyable for him.

"He could not read properly or play," she says. "It was very difficult for him."

Watching her son struggle with simple childhood activities was painful for any mother.

Hariom studies in Class One, and learning is an important part of his day. While searching for treatment, his family reached Akhand Jyoti, where he underwent surgery for his congenital cataracts.

Today, he wears his spectacles and sits beside his sister with books spread out in front of them. Reading has become part of his day again, and he is able to continue his studies.

His mother smiles as she says, "I am very happy. He can see again."

Afternoons With Friends Again

There is something reassuring about seeing children do what children naturally do.

Hariom spends time with his friends again. They sit together, laugh together, and enjoy the ordinary moments that once felt difficult for him. He reads, he plays, and he takes part in the days that every eight-year-old should be able to enjoy.

Where Childhood Finds Him

Hariom's smile says enough. Wearing his spectacles, he looks ready for another day of school, another game with friends, and another story to read at home.
