When a Dream Finally Finds Its Chance

Chandani Kumari's journey from a rural farming family to pursuing a Bachelor of Optometry at Akhand Jyoti shows how education, opportunity, and a supportive environment empower young women to build careers, lead communities, and transform lives.

A Dream That Waited

"I always wanted to work in the medical field. I just didn't know if a girl like me would ever get that chance."

For years, that dream quietly lived inside Chandani Kumari.

In a small farming household, where every rupee was carefully planned and every decision shaped by circumstance, becoming a healthcare professional felt less like a plan and more like a distant wish. Her father, Manu Prasad, worked tirelessly to support the family. Her mother, Kiran Devi, held the home together. Alongside her two elder brothers and grandmother, Chandani grew up believing in hard work—but also understanding that dreams often have to wait when opportunities are few.

Still, she refused to let go.

"I knew where I wanted to go. I was only waiting for a door to open."

When the Door Finally Opened

That door opened in 2023.

When Chandani joined Akhand Jyoti's Bachelor of Optometry programme, it was more than securing admission to a college. For her family, it meant finding a place where quality education and a safe environment for girls went hand in hand. For Chandani, it meant that a dream she had carried for years finally had somewhere to grow.

Becoming More Than a Student

The transformation wasn't only academic.

"Earlier, I hesitated to speak. Today, I communicate confidently, even in English. I've become more disciplined, more independent, and I've learned how to carry myself with confidence. I've realised that education doesn't just change your career—it changes you."

That quiet village girl who once wondered whether her dream would remain out of reach now sees a future filled with possibilities.

A Dream Bigger Than Herself

She wants to complete her Bachelor's degree, pursue a Master's in Optometry, and one day lead a Vision Centre of her own.

"I don't just want to build my career. I want people in villages like mine to receive quality eye care close to home. If I can become someone another girl looks up to, that will be my biggest achievement."

Every Girl Deserves Her Chance

Her story is about more than becoming an optometrist.

It is about what happens when belief replaces doubt, when opportunity reaches the last mile, and when a young rural girl is trusted with a future she always imagined for herself.

Every girl has dreams.

Some are simply waiting for someone to believe in them.

For Chandani, that belief changed everything.

And somewhere in another village, another girl is waiting for her chance.
